Who We Are




Mitchell Bland is the Pastor of The Sanctuary in Hazelwood, Missouri.  He received his master’s degree in counseling in 2005. Besides his duties at the church, he is also an adjunct professor at Urshan College, does counseling, seminars, and some writing.  Mitchell and Janelle Bland have been married for over 24 years and have one son, Skyler, who is 16 years old. Janelle was a school teacher for over 19 years. She started and ran her own school for four years, then was a kindergarten teacher followed by being a first grade teacher at New Life Christian Academy in Bridgeton, Missouri, for 15 years. Janelle now helps Mitchell pastor The Sanctuary. She is a true gift from God to everyone who meets her. Mitchell, Janelle, and Skyler love each other deeply and enjoy life to its fullest, together.

Youth Pastor


Assistant Pastor

Paul Marion served as Youth Pastor at The Sanctuary for 13 years, before transitioning to Assistant Pastor in 2019. He received a Bachelor of Practical Theology from Gateway College of Evangelism, and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Missouri Baptist University. Paul is also an Adjunct Professor at Urshan College, as well as a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor. Paul has been married to his beautiful wife, Jill for 10 years. Jill received her Bachelors in Christian Ministry from Gateway College of Evangelism, and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Greenville University. She has authored and published children's books and taught elementary school at New Life Academy. Paul and Jill are the proud parents of the most adorable children on the planet, Aryelle (5) and Lincoln (3).

Youth Pastor

Brendan Fosdick became the Youth Pastor of Storm Youth Ministries at The Sanctuary in 2019.  He graduated from Columbia College in 2018 with his bachelor’s in human services.  While working for the church, he also owns and manages a lawn maintenance company. Brendan and Veronica Fosdick have been married for almost 5 years and have one adorable puppy, Margo.  Veronica received her bachelor's degree in sociology from Columbia College in 2018, and she has worked in Christian education for 4 years.  She also teaches piano and voice lessons at J. Oscar School of Music. Brendan and Veronica are blessed to serve the students of Storm Youth Ministries together. They love coffee, escape rooms, and spending time with their wonderful friends and family.



Music Director

Jeromy and Barbie have served The Sanctuary as the music directors since 2009. They have a long-standing love for music ministry and consider it an absolute honor to work with some of the greatest people anywhere: The Sanctuary Choir and Musicians! Their passion for investing in others and helping them develop their own ministries includes both mentorships and training musicians and singers to lead with excellence in worship. They are a dynamic music team with a wide range of musical experience. Before moving to St. Louis, Jeromy was the Director of Music at West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin, IL, and Barbie directed music and worked in children’s ministry in her home church in Ohio. Their experience eventually led them to Gateway College of Evangelism, now Urshan College, where they served as Music Directors from 1999-2009. They founded J. Oscar School of Music in 2008, a private teaching studio in St. Louis, and enjoy training students and helping them develop their ministries. Jeromy and Barbie also travel to various churches to help strengthen and develop their own worship teams. Additionally, Jeromy serves as the Director of the United Pentecostal Church Music Ministry.

Elizabeth Loyd


Children's Ministry Director

Elizabeth Loyd joined the Sanctuary team as the children’s ministry director in 2015. She has been involved in children and youth ministry since 1994. She loves children and is dedicated to seeing them grow in their spiritual development. At the Sanctuary, she organizes all the weekly children’s programming from nursery through middle school. She also directs the children’s ministry events such as VBS, Kids on the Move, Junior Camp, etc. She leads an incredible staff of dedicated, amazing, and talented teachers and volunteers that love children and have a passion for seeing them come to Jesus. She and her husband, Michael, have a daughter, Sophia. Elizabeth is also a creative designer for the UPCI and loves to laugh, drink coffee, draw, and paint.



Church Office Manager

Darla joined The Sanctuary staff as the office manager and pastoral secretary in 2008 after many successful years in early childhood and elementary education. A graduate of Missouri Baptist University (M.A.T.), Darla’s proficiency in organization, supervision, and interpersonal communication has made her an indispensable addition to The Sanctuary staff. Her hobbies include the St. Louis Blues, cooking, and spending time at the beach with her friends.

Church Office Assistant

A native of St. Louis, Barb joined The Sanctuary staff in 2015 as an administrative assistant.  She has worked in this field for 40+ years since graduating from Gateway College of Evangelism.  Mother of four girls and grandmother of ten, her greatest joy comes from spending time with her kids and grandkids.  Other interests include reading, travel, crafts and the St. Louis Cardinals.
